Hi all,

Don't know what thats about.

But I've developed a fetish for garden benches.

Every time I see one I've gotta see how its built
and the simpler its built the better I like it.

Of course, I like the more complex ones as well.

Woodworker's Journal - August 2004 - Vol 28 no 4

Has quite an attractive Garden Bench plan
(I'd add a curved seat for comfort).

I wonder what Australian outdoor wood would suit this bench best?

Although I've still got plenty of Merbeu, I'm thinking of somthing lighter.

As in white?

Any suggestions?

G'day Barry,

If the pommy ww mags are anything to go by, garden benches are very popular in England. There was an article and a free plan for one called "Lutyens Bench" in the August 2002 edition of "The Woodworker".

If you are at all interested in this design I could try photographing the picture in the mag and maybe also the plan and posting both here so you can get an idea of what this particular design looks like. If it is to your liking then you're welcome to the plan as I doubt I'll ever build a garden bench. ;) Still too busy trying to turn my garage into a workshop. :D

Hooroo..

Hi duckman,

Very funny indeed :D

I've built two Lutyens so far.
See my posts somewhere on this site.

So wanted to give that design a break.

Hi barry,

Yeah, treated pine is an option.
Don't know why but I always seem to over look TP
and go for Hard Wood...
