Having obtained enough cedar to build a canoe or kayak and finally worked out how to cut it into strips I am wondering if it is best to cut it all into strips now or wait until nearly ready to use it.
Have done 1 of the 15 planks to prove the process. If I leave things set up then it can all be done in short sessions over a few weeks. If I pack it up now then it will probably have to be done in a rush later. Storage is in the rafters of a shed.

It could be quite a while before the strips are used so are there any pros/cons for storage as strips vs as planks?

Cut them now and store them flat. This way you'll find flaws and release internal stresses. They can also acclimate faster to the environment in smaller dimensions.

Thanks Par, there is an old door in the rafters already and the strips will sit nice and flat on that. The strips done so far look very good - fine straight grain and no knots. Hope the rest is as good.
