Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and pretty new to marquetry but I do have a question someone can help out with. All the information I've gathered so far has no mention of how to create the fine black lines often seen on motifs etc.

I read that they are often filled with black mastic or ink... even ballpoint pen!

Can anyone give me a definitive answer or a step by step on what they do to achieve said lines.

I'd very much appreciate it.

Cheers, chuckwould

Thanks Tycoon

Have seen this tutorial before and boy does that look fiddly!

I've just about finished the project I've been working on so I'll upload a pic (I cheated and used a combination of filling the larger areas with sawdust and glue and using a permanent black pen. Sounds terrible, but the result was not too bad!).

The picture will give y'all a better idea of what I was looking for as an answer.

Cheers for posting :U

Wow, thanks for the link Artesano, there's some great stuff on there!

Here's a pic of what I was working on, I 'cheated' and used a permanent marker :B

Do you think the extremely fine slivers route would have been the best to take? If you or anyone else has any ideas or comments I'd appreciate it.

ps, for my next project, I'll be giving the high gloss finish a miss too!

cheers for posting

....can't say - tight curves could be a bit tricky , I would probably think of metal inlay (wire)....now that I think of it , look at what comes under the word "inlay" on You Tube:oo: - those guitar-makers have some tricks to show! , and one of them tricks is to fil the groove with colored epoxy - when it's dry and rock-hard , you sand it ...et voila!

Just in case anyone's interested, I've just found a step-by-step to colored epoxy inlay...
