Our Spring and summer weather are just around the corner here in the UK and my thoughts are turning to turning.

I am not happy about turning in my workshop it is so cluttered and I know what the shavings content can be like after a turning job.

Has anyone here made a trolley system so they can take their lighter type lathes out into the garden and work?

Not exactly a trolley system, but I previously had some timbers bolted on both sides of two trees with all-thread across the gap, sort of like this:

========================
..| O | .........................| O |
========================

The timbers were permanently installed, more or less level. I fetched my old 1929 Delta in and out of the house, along with separate motor mount. I used large wing nuts for attachments. 'Twas a PITA, actually, but cleanup was more tidy. Now, I work only indoors, and reduce clutter as best I can.

Cheers,
Joe

For anyone else interested I noticed that Hare and Forbes has the same trolley Neil has for a good price.

I bought this little trolley that will hold up to 500 lbs, the tires are 127mm ( 5") dia. Rolls easily. Hydraulic-pedal operated. Not tall enough for standing, but great for sitting down turning. :2tsup:

Just fit casters to your current stand . Wheel the lot to where you want it .Use a short length of wood to lever up each end in turn and put a suitable block under the end so's the wheels are just clear of the ground . As long as you don't want to turn big out of balance lumps of wood it works fine . This is the system our club uses with no problems .
