here we go, Backwood bowl. The blank courtesy of NeilS :2tsup:

Size 9.5" x 2.75" [ 24cmx7cm] Polished with Shellawax, will revisit in 3-4 weeks for the final polish. Thickness is approx 3/16" or 5mm all over. A very light bowl was necessary as it will be carried overseas to a family in Germany as a thank you present from Australia.

Many thanks to Neil for supplying an excellent blank with spalting. :2tsup:It turned out very well.

Nice bowl, I used to wonder what all the fuss with Blackwood was. Then I actually got my hands on some and I love it:2tsup:.

Good to see you turning again hughie.

But I find that the time away has brought it limitations on the return. So It was a much slower process than I anticipated. :C

Also not knowing the people its a bit hard with shape and finish etc. But their daughter who is staying with us reckons it'll be fine.

Much of the original shape was NeilS as it came as a rough out, I just added the rim and polish.

Thanks for all your positive comments. :2tsup:

Agreed, you have done a nice job on that lump of blackwood, Hughie. Well done!

Very interesting to see it given the Hughie touch. Hope the rough out didn't restrict your options too much.

Had wood... did travel...:U

and was it on the new home made lathe

Nah and still in the driveway.:C The lathe is an old Woodfast, I am converting to single phase/3phase up from 1/2HP to 1HP with variable speed, plus a few other mods to it.
