For all of you still struggling with the skew chisel, perhaps it is time to try a different technique

Just seems all wrong - I have enough trouble just trying to rub me belly and pat me bald head at the same time :C:C:U
I wanna see how he did those bowls on the table :o ...not enough swing on that rig :no:

So that's why I'm having trouble using a skew to roll a bead reliably. I'm using my hands :doh:

That's pretty amazing though. incredible how some people can just do stuff regardless of the tools at their disposal :cool:

Cheers,
Dave

Makes me feel humble. If he had an electric lathe then the sky would be the limit.
A true craftsman cos he knew how to hide a mistake after a nick came out of the head he finished by carving a flat face. I would also like to see the rig he did the bowls on. Perhaps there is a vicmarc out the back and the bow lathe is a show for the punters.

Yeah, thinner blade. Doesn't seem to have a distinct heel and toe but then his foot's got those ;-}

Good one Ern!
Do they make gloves for feet?
Makes you wonder with all our fancy lathes and specialised tools.

This is a bit OT but there are some useful vid clips of skew use (our kind of skew that is) here: Alan Lacer Woodturning (http://www.alanlacer.com/) Edit, OK, really only one. Oh, and his article on scraper sharpness from AWT is there too :2tsup:
