Hi All!

I am a QLD hobbyist photographer and I would LOVE a custom made wooden bowl or tray similar to the one in this photograph.

Would anyone be interested in giving this a go for me, and how much would it be? I think it looks gorgeous and would be so lovely for little babies!

Would prefer to pick up from SE-QLD if at all possible :)

Thanks so much!

Well, Imagrey, if you were on this side of the great pond, i could fix you up with any configuration of bowl that you would need: but since your not:((

I think you would be better off buying one from the States.

Even with freight costs it would work out cheaper than getting the timber here.

The trench bowls are more carving than turning.

Thanks Ed, shame you are a bit far away :)

, can you imagine the shipping costs from america :o I wonder if there's a 'wood turning' forum perhaps that I can go and annoy :)

What said. Any carver should be able to make one of those, no major skills required, but timber and time alone would set you back at least a couple of hundred. Maybe Schaf in your area could be interested?

Tea Lady, thanks for those links! Some lovely bowls there :) I'm always on the lookout for cute things for my photographs and I often buy second hand.

Bench1holio, it would probably be about 23 1/2" L x 11" W x 5"

Hi Iamagrey

A bowl 18x18 x5 inches has about $150 just for timber and about the same for turning so they won't be cheap.

Cheers Tony

No loving parent would consider their baby a basket case. :D

As luck wants it, I was planning to practise my Arbortech skills on this 24x16x5 slab to make an oval (in its original sense of egg-shaped) bowl.

It probably would have suited you, Imagery, but I am a bit far away.:)

Hi Imagery,

I'm in Northern NSW behind Ballina and do Arbourtech stuff with all sorts of scrapheap/woodheap timber - give me some rough dimensions and I'll see what I can do. It doesn't look too hard.
Have some camphor laurel lumps that might fit the bill. But if you have a favourite timber I've probably got it, or something near.

cheers, richie

Hi Richie! That sounds great, thanks for your offer :) It looks like it would be about 23 1/2" L x 11" W x 5" and it looks pretty much similar to this photo

And the end result with a baby inside is like this http://www.traditionsinthyme.com/images/photogemmahiggins2.jpg doesn't it look gorgeous :D You can PM me if you want to talk further :)

Texian, Oh I've got plenty of baskets! So I'm after something different :)

Imagery, Well do you need some babies then? Got them too? Better you than me. Maybe some kittens or puppies or ? I saw our first whitetail deer fawn of the year this morning in the front yard. Poking mom's tummy with her nose for some milk.
