Nova remote switch

My latest toy requires a better switch set up Upgraded - Page 2 - Woodwork Forums (http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?p=1145944#post1145944)

Poor design feature in positioning it where it is :roll: regardless of ability.

So I'd like to put a separate switch that I can use it anywhere long the length of the lathe

I have read this thread (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/magnetic-switch-64845/)and obvious its possible and I have a few electrician friends who can do the work. I also would like to fit a reversing switch if possible.

Any one out there who has done these modifications??

Just last week saw a foot switched extension cord, rated to 1HP. Either at Bunnings or H&F, (senior moment)

Noted at the time that I must get one of those to try on my 3000. Not very dear at all.

Just be aware that some foot switches are 'hold for on', not toggle switches.

Thanks Ern just like an accelerator good exercise for the feet and leg muscles:2tsup: useless if I need to roll down the bed of the lathe though. I could how ever situate it elsewhere and :rolleyes:

This is what I used for an emergency kill switch.

It is both 110 or 220 and is rated at 2 hp and 35 amps.
I assume something similar is available there. I just spliced it into the hot line in the cord. For a real remote (on/off) switch you would have to wire it into the Nova control box.
It mounts in a standard electrical outlet box.
I thought about using a magnet but instead just used two self-drilling screws (with fender washers inside) and just screwed the box to the end of the rail.
One thing I didn't know is that if you hit the kill paddle, the switch on the lathe also goes to the off position. To restart you must use the kill switch on-button and then the start button. I'm glad Nova did that so the lathe can not be accidentally turned back on at the kill switch.

Yeah, I mounted one of these (http://www.woodworksupplies.com.au/category105_1.htm)on my DVR XP. Put a fat RE magnet on the back so it can sit pretty much anywhere as well as on the floor.
