anybody here live or built a strawbale house. :confused: Yes I know little pig lost the fight :eek: but serriously gentle[people] ? I love the idea,concept and feel of them but want info after living in for awhile.R rating 35+ Tonto

have thought abt this for some time and feel it would be an excellent thing, done right.... and I think the fairy tale is wrong

Excellent thermal properties. Also, strawbale is good in fire apparently, as there are no "chimneys" like stud walls.

One thing that really appealed to me about straw bale is its flexibility - I love period homes, the more basic the better.... imagine Tuscany or Provence.....Straw bale lends itself to this style nicley - when I looked at building, my builder (highly regarded stone mason) and I worked out how to marry Sandstone quoining, lintels, steps etc. to Straw as a cost effective way of maintaining the bulk, look and feel of stone at a far lower cost.

.... and then of course there's the combo of Straw and post-n-beam - YUMMY

The big problem I see with strawbale is the possibility of termite damage.
