I'd like to build a picnic table using regular construction lumber, not treated lumber. Can anyone suggest/recommend the best "stuff" to use to treat the wood to protect it against the elements? I'd like to also be able to paint it, too.

Thanks,
Rocky

"Wood Preservative," several brands available. AKA "CopperTop." My current jug is hidden someplace, probably in the truck. Recommended/required for coating cut surfaces and drilled holes in treated timber. Imparts a green or brown tint, and can accept varnish or paint. Seek it at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc., in their paint departments.

For end grain in contact with the ground, attach a sacrificial foot plate, also coated or treated.

Cheers,
Joe
