Firstly a big thanks to Sawdust Maker as I used his pen press as a guide.

Items used
Turned Handle (turned last year but had it on the shelf-doing nothing)
Toggle Clamp - Code G302F (from Carbatec)
Length of Hardwood for base (left over from pool fence)
Piece of Hardwood for sliding Stop
Aluminium Bar (left over from Market Tent makeover)
PVC Offcut (purchased from local Plastic Business)
'T' Nut

As far as cost goes, it would have been cheaper to buy a ready made press from Carbatec if time is taken into account but I enjoyed the experience.

Carbatec Press - $65.00

My Costs
Toggle Clamp $28.00
PVC Offcuts $25.00 (The company had a minimum price but I got enough PVC for 3 more pen presses).

All other items I had in the workshop.

Great job there,:2tsup: I wish I had time to do stuff like that,

Sweet :2tsup:

I really must find time to make something like this as well. As you said Skot, probably cheaper to buy one but the satisfaction of doing it yourself can't be beaten.

cheers

it's interesting to see the different way we woodies work things out
my version of the pen press is similar but then a lot different here (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f69/pen-press-home-made-81309/)

Good work. Looks great. I guess we can't always take cost into consideration when making something. The pleasure you get from seeing something you have created yourself doesn't have a price tag. Well done.:2tsup:

Too true John,
If we only took costs into account and not the enjoyment, there would be no hobbies at all. We could buy all our pens, wood bowls etc from the stops (made in China) and sit around wondering what to do with our spare time.

We make it so we can say...WE MADE IT.

It may work out costing more but you can not buy one that looks as good as that and at least you know the bloke who made is a OK bloke:):D

Well done:2tsup:
