Hi Fella`s,

Been busily working away trying to get the workshop all organised and ready for work.
It`s nearly there now, just need to build a few more storage cabinets and i`ll be back into it.

The shed i`m working from is on our farm, it was originally an old shearing shed. It was pretty much written off in a storm back in the late 90`s, the floor was ok so we had the insurance build a new shell over the original raised floor.

Well the original raised floorboards eventually made life difficult working in there, it became a little unsafe also so back in february we decided to rip them out and re-do and extend the shed.

Here`s the shed as it was

We kept all the straighter Jarrah floorboards, these are around 25mm x 200mm so will be able to put them to use in a build somewhere down the track. There`s a lot of history in these floorboards, my grandfather would have been shearing on these, there`s some nice wood in there.

The shed as it is now with concrete floor, it`s still a works in progress but the hardest part is over.

Nice! :2tsup: :2tsup: :2tsup:

But surely you don't need the drum sander, and in the event you don't, can you put it on the back of a truck to my place, pretty please? :U

Looks great Brad, nice big work space.
I curse my bad luck being born in the eastern states every time i see one of these 'look at all the recycled jarrah I found' threads.

All that Jarra soaked with Lanolin from the wool hope it going to good use not the fire.

Shed looks brilliant hope the concrete isn't to hard on the back, legs and hips.

Cheers everyone :2tsup:

No 2 sheds here, only 1, :D

Will definately be putting the old floorboards to good use somewhere down the track.
May even build something for the folks so it stays in the family, just gotta figure out what to build.

I`ve got plenty of room there now but once i move some wood in there and a few other things i`ll fill up quickly i think.

Wheelin' the boss and I spent weeks trotting back and forth to specialists with health issues. The eldests son's partner packed up and buggered off with nearly all the stuff from the house. Ana and i have been back and forth there on weekends when he has the two boys to help him out and get a handle on what needs to be done. Will probably be making a bed and some chairs soon.

Also Ana decided to renovate the ensuite and have the lving area retiled. Bloody hard work for this poor old hack but the tiler is here grouting the floor now, so that is almost done

I've also spent plenty of agonizing time trying to sort out the sudivision of a block and the requirements for the house to be placed thereon.

Only been to woodturners 3 times since we got back, and even then those visits were in passing on the way to do other stuphph..

I am beginning to see some daylight, however. Couple of weeks and the shed might be in a fit state to work in.

Brad, still finishing off my shed. Just wish that it was as big as yours. There sure is a lot of tin there. How is the temperature in summer.

Cheers guys:2tsup:

Artme you were in Brazil for a while is that correct? i seem to remember something about that.
I did plan to call in there on my way back from canada but ran out of time unfortunately.

BobR, yes mate it does get very hot in the shed here in summer, our last summer was quite brutal, we averaged 38.5c as a maximum in january up here.
I`ve just installed 2 rainwater tanks and will pump water on the roof via a soaker hose on the warmer days, catching and re-using the water again.
Will also purchase one of those mobile larger evaporatine airconds before summer too.
Glad to hear your shed is allmost complete too:2tsup:

Gooma, my new shed has the bubblewrap style insulation - air cell, or something similar - and I highly recommend it. It's not cheap, at about $300 for a 1.5 x 30m roll I think, but it is very effective. Once it's in it costs nothing to run, and on a day in the mid 30s the inside face of the insulation on the north wall was just barely warm.

There are different grades of it, and mine is apparently top of the range and about half an inch thick. I can get details on brand, name etc if you want, I still have a roll of it left. Could do photos too. Two rolls were enough to do the roof and all 4 walls of a 3x6x2.4m shed.

That sounds very interesting, if you wouldnt mind sharing the details on the brand and where it`s able to be purchased that`d be great.

Even if it drops the temperature by a few degree`s it`d be a big help in summer.

cheers
Brad

Just checked - it's called Protherm Reflecta-Guard, and comes in 1.5m x 20m rolls. Not sure how much it costs because I just added it into the Ranbuild shed I bought. The shed installers I had do the shed cladding said it was about $300 a roll, but I didn't really care when I bought it, it was just an essential part of the shed. Only downsides are that it's foiled so you have to pay attention around spikes and power lines, and that if you overlap it too far it can make it hard to fit cladding because of the thickness.

This is it, but I can't find a price online for it:
http://www.protherm.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=42
Looks like they have a few similar products, differentiated by thickness. Reflecta-Shield is 4.4mm thick, -Cell is 7.4mm thick, and -Guard is 13.5mm thick.

Recommended. Much nicer to deal with than batts, and works well. Excess could be used as windscreen sunscreens in your car too.

Edit: here's a pic showing the shed going together with the insulation added. Just behind the installer you can see a new roll on the ground. A full roll is about 80cm across - too big to put your arms around and touch your hands together.
