First of all I'm sad this forum isn't generating the huge response I had hoped for. I've been thinking of turning some flutes for a very long time, I just don't know where to start. Is there a template available to position the finger holes to get the proper tone for different sized flutes?

The internet is full of plans and useful advice Dusty, The starting place is what do you want to make, a side blown, end blown, straight bore, tapered bore, a replica of an historical instrument or the next generation? Google Terry McGee - Flutemaker or Luc Verhoven, that should give you some ideas on where to start. Uni of NSW has a great flute acoustics page and there are literally dozens of hole calculation spreadsheets and Java scripts out there. There are people here with deep experience in NAF's and Whistles. What were you planning?

I wasn't referring to any questions I had posed. I was hoping for a large response to this forum so I could get some ideas and see some beautiful work done by others. Why do I fee like I'm being attacked here?

To Sabastiaan56; Thanks for the information provided. I will follow the links you offered. I really didn't know where to start and will have to do some more research. I'll have to find a style that interests me and dive in. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the information for the poitioning of the tone holes.

Its pure maths Dusty, a great book is Toneholes and Air columns by Hopkins. Until then to get something playable going reasonably quickly check out Dr Guido's PVC whistle page. Its a great introduction. A good PVC whistle sounds as good as any multi dollar instrument. And its cheap enough to make lots of mistakes on.
