Counterboring - accurate and freehand!
I've just posted a page on the counterbore adaptor for spade bits on my web site...

Solves: short bolts, seating bolt heads / nuts on curved timber or angled faces, hiding bolts, re-boring to larger diameter.
Allows: drilling of shank diameter first, drilling from opposite side of counterbore.
Expands: the function of your spade bits.
Designed by me, available from Carb-I-Tool.
