first you will need to clean all the dirt off.

when we slab a stump we knock all we can ff with a crowbar, then a screwdriver, then brush down with a wire brush and if available hose down with a pressure washer.

then cut the top and bottom paralell this can be the hardest part sometimes. used to take lots of trial and error but is easy for me with teh lucas.

it will need to be debarked.

sanded

and stained.

any photos of teh stump

Well, the pics are not really telling me that it wants to be a table but maybe I'm just too far away.

It does not really need to be recut if you don't want to. It could be left as is and the glass top supports could be made using bolts that thread into some nuts set into epoxy in the wood. The bolts could be painted black and the heads covered in silicone rubber to prevent any damage to the glass. the bolts could then be screwed up and down to make the top level.

If it was me I would let it sit for a year or two to dry out as it might twist of split

Good luck with that mate .
Best get in a few gallons of resin filler to stabilise that root ball before you start milling it tho .
Keep us posted with pics

i would trim all the roots level and sand each to a rounded point. then sit teh glass on this.

maby put a thin cork or brown rubber nob on 4 of the roots :2tsup:

What sort of tree is it from? this makes a difference as to how it will need to be treated, and for that matter if it will be suitable and safe for what you are doing.

Hi Mad,
I have a few bits of Poinciana slab (and some boards) that u might want to incorporate into that stump, I will be coming down to Bris shortly (not sure when) so could bring with, as a suggestion...set the glass in a surround then mount onto stump:unsure::dunno::shrug:
It's not a strong sort of wood, can be a bit brittle and those smaller roots I wouldn't rely on too much so I would recommend thick sections or reinforced somehow with a stronger timber/mat'l
The borers love the sapwood so bark off, some sort of bug treatment:2tsup:and very susceptable to blue stain but that's not any sort of problem for your stump.

The slab pieces I have came from a tree with a rotten core hence the holes and brown makings which I quite like and surprisingly quite solid, I'd venture to say harder than the parent timber, anyway the piccies.....

I also have some boards machined 19mm thick yet to be cut to width but could cleanup at 100 to 150 wide x 1500ish long also some longer and thicker if u want em, I won't use em,
