I did my turns at the Sydney Wood show today and can say that this was a fantastic experience. I will admit that I was a little nervous at the start but once people came by and asked questions about the forum all that disappeared.
I guess the times that I picked were a little out as first thing in the morning was a little quite and then again in the afternoon, last hour of the day.

At least Saturday I am more in the middle of the day so could be better to chat and meet people. Saw some familiar faces and got some O it’s you looks. Yes you know who you are ……..

I recon that most people that came to the forum stand were actually forum members, but then again we did get the odd person that did not hear about us.

I am sure that I will say this again in another thread thank you Jeremy for organizing this.

I was there :2tsup:, and I can prove it, I'm the fit looking bloke on the right in Pic7 (your sposed to tell me when taking a pic so I can suck the belly in and push the chest out).
I was a tad nervous at the prospect but thoroughly enjoyed it and will be doing it again next year.
Most of the people that stopped by were members and the lounge was well patronised by other exhibitors which was good as they were often interesting to talk to (some were all talked out and just wanted to relax).
As I say, had a ball and would recommend it to anyone else who may have been keen but was a bit nervous at the prospect.
While the schoolies are a PIA, it was good to see that we had some genuine interest from a few so the next generation has been locked in.

I also enjoyed my spell on the stand yesterday. If it wasn't for the vagaries of public transport on a weekend, I'd would have put my name down for today as well.
Have fun today and tomorrow.:2tsup:

Another great day today for me at the show and at the Woodworkforums stand. Only did one hour as it would have been fair to my partner who was also there. She agreeded to come and take a look at what this show is about.

I tried to setup a little joke on nzcarver, the deal was when I introduced Jane to Dave she was to ask the following questions.

What are you carving?
How much money can you make?
And are you a bit young to carve when all old people carve?

For those that are not aware. Dave got these questions from the school kids last year and was so over it with all the question. :U As you can see this was a little bit of fun. But Jane mucked up the questions and forgot what to ask. :roflmao:

We can't let a Queenslander make a comment and get away with it. Even if it is encouraging.
Hello up there Ruffly. You are probably not interested in footy anyway but it is on everyone's lips here. Who's getting the sack? How can we beat Qld? etc

Many thanks to out friend from VEK Tools who gave us a lend of his thumb drive and we got connected. A few people mentioned that they were not members but look at the site more than once a week. I was able to give a demo of answering a question and then realised I was logged in under Neil. Lucky it wasn't the Woodies Joke section or even worse- if you get my drift.

It was great meeting up with a few 'names' on the Forum and a big thank you to Neil for organising the coffee shop, chocolate and the computers.

No big purchases for me, a stick of camphor and 2 Widgies from the Triton club (and you'll have to ask what they are to find out.)

Ok what are Widgies??

Yes have to agree many thanks to VEK Tools for the rescue well done.:2tsup:

I want to say thanks to Christos and others on the stand today as I had to pull out at the last minute. OTGA president was sick couldn't make it and 2IC Tom, After a had day Friday had to rest just 5 weeks since he had a heart attack and he fronted up to face the school kids. Well done Tom.

So I decided I'd stay and put in a bit more effort on our stand today, I did make a quick trip to the WWF stand and again this evening meeting Alex as Pat was leaving with his stash of burls. I returned and found Jmk Jeremy there. Good to meet you both.:2tsup:

During the day I got to meet Sam/Simonatra Thanks for the blanks Sam:2tsup::2tsup:

Hardenfast called by good to see you Wayne been a while, now get back into it.I can see the cogs turning and chips flying.

I'm staying home tomorrow thanks to all for a great weekend nice chatting.

Once again, thanks to VEK for the wireless dongle. It makes a real diference.

I wandered in at 3.00 yesterday for my two hour stint with AlexN.. We met lost of forumites and some lurkers and followers and interesteds.

The lounge is a great idea and I reckon that the stand re-inforces what an important role the Forums play. While I was there several of the vendors came up to talk about how they can get involved. All of them accepted that this was a member -driven phenomenon, so the Forums are not an opportunity for them to advertise. But equally when I pointed out that if members have questions or issues about their products or services and they can help out, they thought that that would be interesting for them - they all understood that reputation for after-sales support is very important to woodies. So I said join and be helpful and don't advertise (or denigrate competitors) and you will be welcome . I hope that comes to something because it will make the forums a very useful interface between consumers and suppliers.

One other thought for next time. Perhaps we should add some pictures of projects shown on the Forums - they could be both physical (perhaps replacing some of the the paper signs) and virtual - perhaps just some extra slides for Groggy's presentation (maybe inserted between the current ones with a picture and a brief discussion). Some projects I'd show would be WouldWood's windsor, Wongo's rocker; some of Derek Cohen's tools, some of the pens and some bowls

Well done everyone for the time you put into the Forum stand and Neil for sponsoring it.

I was there for a while about lunch-time on Friday - had a bit of a chat with Sawdustmaker and graemet before moving on. I also had a brief visit from Wheelin while I was playing on the Leady for the SWT Guild - I didn't get back to say hello properly unfortunately.

It is awe-inspiring to see the work that some people do - and the time they obviously put into some pieces. Maybe one day I'll get to that standard.

I noticed there were a few traders missing this year (eg Timbecon, Gary Pye) and there didn't seem to be as many customers there either. Maybe the weekend days were busier?

I've now got to decide by the 30th June whether to buy the Hafco BP355 bandsaw at 10% off. Decisions, decisions !!

cheers, Colin

I think this is a good idea but don't just show the pieces that are worthy of galleries which could scare average punters off:)
