G'Day all. My name is Roger and I am turnaholic. Love pens, bowls, boxes etc. I have a mini lathe and have been turning for 1 month and 22 days, 3 hours and 46 minutes and counting. I just love it and want to turn my passion into a small little business. I live on an island and am a very fortunate guy. Hope to meet heaps of people. Have a good one:U:U:U:U

Hi Stringy
I know mate. Up to our necks in mud. We are lucky asa ladies pay heaps for mud facial and mud packs. We go to the mud beach and do that for free. I should shake out my shoes on the beach and get rid of the sand from Mackay. You take care and thanks for the response. Makes one feel welcome

Thanks for that. I have yet to meet a nasty woodworker. I am a member of the Mackay Woodturners Club and there were some good fellows there. I now live on ussell so will be joining some club here.

Roger,
Was there 4 yeas ago to have a look at our block in Cutter St. There were a fair few houses under construction then! I could imagine that the building has ramped up since.

What is the timber on the island? I did see some turned and carved items in one of the clubs on the Island but don't know if it was from the local timber. Have you given some a run on the lathe?

Cheers,
James

I have tried some timber. The usual gum etc. I want to try mangrove as we seem to have heaps that is just lying around. Thats dead mangroves I mean. I am wondering what th local sheoak would be like. Too soft?? I have tried some recycled hardwood that comes from old houses I renovated. I was turning pens and had 70% blow outs. Any ideas? Take care Roger
