View Full Version : I Save My Wood Shavings

Les in Red Deer

While turning wood pen blanks to make future pen blanks.
In this case I saved the lathe wood shavings while turning laminated pen blanks made using Bloodwood, Wenge, Ash and Red Oak.

I cast the shavings using a Sierra tube, Resin Saver mold and Polyester Resin. Finished with 400 grit, buffed with super fine steel wool and polished with Hut Ultra Gloss and dressed up with a Black Titanium/Titanium Gold Elegant Beauty.

Great Les,!!!:2tsup::2tsup: now I have to find out more on casting and where to get these moulds so I can have a go--a casting I will go---a casting I will go- Hi Ho a merry O a casting I will go!!!!:oo: PS in the door way of my workshop the old carpet has a huge hole in it, the cement shows through, one and a half years ago some one tried casting and it bubbled onto the floor and----, now, a lot older and wiser , will try the proper way. They are fantastic pens.

That's bringing salvaging timber to the next level. How did you manage to separate the larger chips from the medium chips and saw dust? Hope you didn't stand there separating them one by one.

Got to show my wife this posting, she thinks I tight by salvaging pen blank size timber form the off cut table, next thing you know I will be pulling wood shavings off as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Les, I know you keep your shop spotless but this is taking it to the extreme.

Well done that is a great cast and a wonderful pen. I have a lovely mix on the lathe at the moment I may have to have a go.

Next one you will have to arrange the shavings to read a message! :D:D

A terrific pen as usual up to your high standards

Les Les Les you have done it again, a masterpiece.

Sawdust maker your wifes comment reminds me of the guy who walked a mile in the other guys shoes then if he still disliked what was said he was a mile away wearing the other guys shoes. Les is over 12,000 miles away.

PS I share your spouse fear with no good reason.
