Just purchased the MC 900 lathe but have no chucks for it.
I found the stand that came with it too rickety so i've bolted the lathe to a solid steel framed, timber topped, work bench. I'm ready to use it and eager to make something, even if it is only saw dust. Can anyone tell me where i can get accessories for it. I'm in Sydney (Chipping Norton) wouild appreciate any information especailly where to get the chucks for both ends.
I can also be cotacted on [email protected]

You should try Carbatec in Sydney (113 Station Road, Auburn Ph 02 96486446). You can purchase a wide range of Vicmark Chucks etc. All you need to know is your spindle size eg M30 x 3.5

We're not helping out Hank, but I must say the the Woodcraft Shoppe in Toowoomba is a trap for young players. I've just spent the last two months in Toowoomba relieving with work, and have come home just about broke!!!!! :)

Bruce. Thanks for the reply. I'll go to Carbatec in Sydney (113 Station Road, Auburn) tomorrow. Looks like i'll be making sawdust before too long. Hope i can repay the favour some day.
Many thanks.

Thanks Reeves, but Toowoomba is a bit too far for me. I will check out Carbatec's web site though.
Thanks for your time.

Hank,

a couple of other places:

Hare and Forbes
http://www.hareandforbes.com.au
(all sorts of machinery, and P&N turning tools)

Trend Timbers
http://www.trendtimbers.com.au
(Also do timber, turning lessons, turning tools)

You can also get the Teknatool chucks and all their interchangeable jaws to fit your lathe (again, you must know the thread on the head of your lathe)
Their site has a how-to on this, as well as their offerings.
http://www.teknatool.com/

Just a query - you said "chucks for both ends". I'm guessing you want a scrolling chuck for the wood, to go on the head of the lathe, and a Jacobs chuck to go on the tail of the lathe for drilling??? Hare and Forbes would be good for the second one; they also do all the Morse taper adapters.

They have their yearly sale coming up soon - 11-12 November, I think.

Cheers,
Andrew

Have a look at Trend Timbers (Cuneen Rd Mulgrave, just before you get to Windsor) as they sell the Teknatool NOVA chucks and accessories.

Also McJING TOOLS on the Hume Highway at Yagoona have a good range of cheaper Chinese accessories, which I have always found work well, including copies of the typical scroll chuck (haven't tried them)

Woodworks Book and Tool in Meadowbank also have stuff, but often have to get stock from their City store, and they can be pricey.

The Woodworks closed their Gowings outlet ages ago - I posted a warning here after I wasted a trip into Sydney.

Only at Meadowbank now....

NO worries Hank and Bruce, seems like Hank has enuf info.

I was not suggetsing he go to Toowoomba just relating my experience as they sell carbatec stuff.

And yes its a bit of a trap i agree, i have spend a fair bit there but its a good shop and Selwyn gave me a $250 chuck for 125 so I am happy ;-)

I find them very useful.

Last Timbecon newsletter pictured some jaw accessories for their cheap Chinese scroll chuck.

Hank: make sure you know your spindle specs before buying a scroll chuck so you get the right insert. Could be 1 x 8tpi or something else.
