Can a Veritas MK II be used with Japanese plane blades?
If not, what are other possibilities?

Yes, it can. I've gotten a 65mm plane blade into one without problems, and it looks like it can accommodate a 70mm blade as well. The one thing to keep in mind is that you can't rely on the squaring jig of the Veritas Mk II to align the blade, since there's a slight taper on the sides of the plane blade, so you'll have to do that by a little trial and error.
I've gotten by with an Eclipse clone jig as well, although it's a little dicey to use.
