My PITH partner on IAP, aggromere, has just advised me that he has received the pen I sent him.

It is a 3006 rifle cartridge with copper bullet, topped off with bark from the Red Ironbark.

I also sent him one of my sander mills, a few bullet pen kits so he can make his own and a selection of Aussie blanks.

He seemed pleased with his haul. He tells me my pen was mailed last Friday, so will post photos of that when it arrives.

These pen swaps sure are fun:2tsup:

Very nice bit of gear there Fred :) , are you powder coating them yet or some other finish ? my clientele prefer the powder coated finish ,but others may have different experiences .
Well done in either case ,cheers ~ John :2tsup::2tsup:

Thanks guys, I have to say this one went easier than previous ironbark bark pens, I turned up some Delrin no mandrel bushes, worked like a dream in the finishing stage.

No John, still haven't got around to that, that darn powder coater hasn't even been switched on yet:doh:

I should be ashamed of myself, imported it at great expense and haven't even used it (I sound like SWMBO:o)

Fred, these swaps are fun when you receive a pen like that!:2tsup: Very lovely and well done-PS I can vouch that those Deildrin Bushes are really great for finishing. Amos:)

Well done Fred that is an excellent pen for the swap

I would have been a bit worried about sending that in the post especially to the US.

My PITH pen is finished and hope to get it away today but may have to wait till Monday as the wedding is taking up all my spare time.

Received my PITH parcel from my partner, aggromere.

There were actually 2 pens in there, first one is an Ultra Cambridge in Silver/Gold with a Picasso blank by Jeff Powell. It is a great pen, beautiful kit, great blank and superb fit and finish. Peter has really done this combination proud.

When we first exchanged PMs, Peter asked what my interests were and I happened to mention that I am a Charles Dickens fan and collect various Dickens memorabilia. He obviously used that as his cue for the PITH pen and came up with a Dickens themed pen, again an Ultra Cambridge, this one in Gold/Silver. Unfortunately the parcel seems to have got open in transit, there is USPS tape on it, and the Dickens broke as part of this accident. Peter had made it in to a closed end pen and the end bit was quite thin and it broke off.
I was devastated when I opened the parcel and saw this. Peter has obviously put a lot of thought and effort in to designing this pen and a lot of time in creating it.

At present I have suggested to Peter that if he still has the original gold end bit that he send that to me and I will shorten the blank and fit that to the pen.

Peter also sent some interesting blanks.

The rod in the foreground is 1920's ebonite which was used for fountain pens in those days, There are a couple of Desert Ironwood blanks and a "wassatree" blank:D.

I reckon Peter has been very generous to me and I am tickled pink with his effort, thank you Peter.

The agony and the ecstacy :( :) , what a great exchange and also a minor disappointment ,you might try and make a very short dowel say 1/4 inch to glue into the tube end and support the broken bit glued onto it ,worth thinking about at least :) Cheers ~ John

Have thought about that John, as well as casting a new piece of PR. Problem with both those approaches is twofold. First, when the end broke off the part still on the pen cracked as it sticks about 12-15mm over the tube. Secondly, if I put something solid in to the tube the ink pump won't fit anymore. I could drill the solid bit out I suppose, but I think the original gold end bit will actually look quite good on this pen. Not quite as Peter intended, but still a very spiff looking Dickens pen.

Shame about the breakage but I am sure that you have the ability to repair it. Great pens you have done well.

Mine went in the post today, I hope it gets there safely

Peter (aggromere) sent me the original gold end part from the Cambridge kit and it arrived a week or so ago.

I shortened the broken bottom barrel back to the tube with my sander mill (couldn't have used a pen mill here:no: very thin indeed) and installed the original gold end part.

There are still a few minor cracks there but nothing like it was when it arrived.

I prefer the look of the gold end over the red custom end and it is a very spiffy and imaginative pen
