Evening all!

Quick question - how easy or hard is it to remove paint from wood.

I'm thinking of buying an old box on ebay, but I don't like it's current finish. The paint looks to be old and chipped and (honestly!) very ugly.

I'd prefer to take it back to wood and varnish/polish/oil (something), or if the wood was crappy repaint something a bit nicer.

apologies if the picture is big, I 'borrowed' it from ebay...

ooh. that's a clever idea! I might go ahead and bid on the box knowing it could be that easy!

To remove paint and refinish is quite tough work.
You can remove a resolved paint by using a paint thinner, but if it is not work you need a chemical stripper.
You also need to re sand until you get the bare wood to get best result before you do your refinishing process.

Good luck
