As everyone has their preferences to their respective finishing on the lathe and all of us like to aspire to a clean finish off the tool, with some sanding usually required, I would like to elicit some active neurons from within the w/turning fraternity for their considerations and experiences with some of the really hardwoods such as the desert timbers available

I have found that to my liking some of the fairly hardwoods of which we have an abundance finish well with wet and dry paper finally rounding out at 1200 after soaking the piece with a wet rag to raise the grain.
Some employ the means of a spraying utensil whilst using the various grades of paper, but it begs the question of having airborne particles of moisture around electrical motors which concerns me.

What are your thoughts?
