We haven't had a challenge for a while so here goes:

1: The article has to fit in a cube 50mm x 50mm x 50mm.
2: The timber is what you use.
3: It can be free form. Goblet, bowl, lidded box or whatever takes your fancy.
4: Depending on entry type (see above) there may be categories to split the winners.
5: Winners will be decided by forum members in a secret poll when closing time is reached. The poll will not go up till then.
6: Photos will have timber type and finish listed.
7: Closing date is November the 5th. Guy Fawkes day is appropriate I think.:D

Tea Lady -
It's all nut, the brown bits are what is left of the skin (for want of a better word). I sanded a flat on the nut & hot glued it to a piece of square stock, then set that up in 4 -jaw so that I could adjust until it was cutting all the way around. A bit of a fiddle and it helps if you can select a nut that's fairly symetrical.
Finish was just MC wax.

Ok so where is it??

Here is my version....

Egg cup:
Wood: Melia Azedarach, white cedar.
Sanded to #400 then finished with Shellawax Cream.
44mm
45mm

See it even holds and egg, but SWMBO said I can’t use a real egg so I had to make a wooden one. I had almost finished turning the egg and the force field holding it between the drive and live centres collapsed so the tip of the egg is a bit pointy. (Someone said it had to be supported physically by the two centres, think I missed something there.)
Egg:
Wood: Callistemon, Bottlebrush
Sanded to #400 then finished with Shellawax Cream.
50mm
Diam: 40mm

Ok just kidding...:D

Pic 1. At left - A mock-up to see how it might look and work out how I would hold it. Centre - Miscalculated the wall thickness and tried to go to far into the corner with a spindle-gouge - At least one part clipped my nose and I was so sure the jolt had snapped my gouge I wasn't game to open my eyes - but it survived :U At right - the template I used for the hollowing.
Pic 2. The adaptors I made to slip over the jaws - did the trick :2tsup:
Pic 3. The finished box - Scrub Stringybark (rhodamnia rubescens) with 2 coats of DO. (accidentally :B Note to self - do NOT use oil on shapes that CANNOT be buffed)

No, spike for "tribal" wood earring. You can see dozens of them if you google "wooden earrings". I am reliably informed that in Europe you can find them at every street corner (cynical me thinks with other commodities...) I found the hard way that power machines do not necessarily make the job easier or faster. The spike is fun (whatever tool you like using :p) but to turn, drill and cut the earring without it shattering is quite an interesting exercise of applied physics. I got it at the 6th attempt, my unreserved admiration if you can do better. :)

It is a pity that getting 'up close and personal' with items this small you get to see the tool marks .... sanding too hard and nerves shot!! Glad I'm not making dozens!

If we get a heap of say goblets, then I will split them into a separate poll.

If not then it will be lumped in together and the highest number wins.

A simple pot based (kinda, sorta, loosly) on 10th century BC pottery in what is today Israel.

50mm wide x 44.5mm high x ~2mm wall thickness.
The wood is ornamental cherry with several coats of Waterlox.

This is a bit of a roughy - actually just the prototype but I won't have time to do a good'un  . The box-in-a-ball-in-a-box I did for my first entry led me to thinking about something similar but more aesthetically acceptable. Turning on 6 axis gives a whole lot of room for error and I had my fair share on this one but lessons learnt will help on the next.
Cocked up the second face and it all went downhill from there - the reason for my thread about templates - need a very precise template to get this one right.
Turned from waste melaleuca with rot all through it and finished with wipe on poly.
