Scraper tip steel

I'm super happy with my oland tool and the other tool that I made (with the multi tip style end), I just need to get a decent scraper tip/bit for it.

I noted in another thread that Ern (not sure??? sorry if I've got it wrong) said there were some potential issues with the quality of the steel in the sorby tear drop shaped tip ... can anyone recommend any others, or alternatively comment on the sorby tip ???

I think you'll find Ern was referring to the quality of the HSS steel from McJings - nothing wrong with the Sorby hollowing tip - I use one all the time. Would be nice if it held it's edge a little longer but I could say that of every tool I own :shrug:

All of the Sorby scraper tips that I have used are OK.

Old cold saw blades if you can find them are HSS and can be cut up to make some very good scrapers.

I picked up an off cut of an 18% cobalt planer blade from my local saw doctor and had an engineering shop blast a hole in it with their plasma cutter and then reshaped it and I find it holds an edge a lot longer than M2 HSS,
