Pyrography

Hi! I am interested in knowing what the best type of wood is to use for Pyrography. I really enjoy it - but find that the veins of resin in the wood tend to make it difficult. Is there a more consistant wood to be found in Australia suitable for Pyrography?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Poplar, Australian White Beech, Queensland Ash, Hoop and Huon Pine, Sassafras and Camphor Laurel are nice to burn. If you can find it Basswood is excellent.
Light coloured ply is nice to burn on. Birch ply is easy to find. Ply can be nicely framed.

Thoroughly sand the surface, makes burning much easier as the pen will slide over the work much more easily.

my wife uses white beech and basswood with good results, got her some small jacaranda slabs but she hasnt used them yet to see how they turn out

any dense close grained timber will do. Birch ply is excellent, Jelutong would be good, Euro Beech is good. These can be obtained from Carbatec WA, were I get my timber from. I mostly use Euro Beech.
