Did anyone else see the 60 minutes documentary last night on the Valley of the Giants? For those of you who missed it, this is a eucalypt forest in southern Tasmania, 60 mins west of Hobart. Apparently it contains the tallest eucalypts in existence, and possibly the tallest trees in the world. If you want to see it, though, you'd better get in soon, because almost the whole forest is marked for felling - for woodchips. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/mad.gif http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/mad.gif http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/mad.gif
One of the most disturbing things I've heard for a long time.

I agree Tristan. What a disgrace. It's funny, but there are people that think being a greenie is incompatible with being a woodworker. I think woodworkers simply have more to lose. We lose the source of our enjoyment as well as the natural environment some of us love so much. Turning any old growth forests into products that can be derived from plantation timber is ridiculous.
