hegner scroll saws

How many of you that visit this forum say I can,t afford a hegner?
Sure they start at around $700 but fellow scrollers, have you ever tried really putting the feelers out.
There are plenty of second hand ones around.
I would not pay any more than $400 for a multicut one and if you can hagle you it would be possible get it even lower.
Just think how many peopler are out there who have been to shows, seen someone demoing had the money and bought then found out they can not get on with it.
I would like ten cents for the many times I have heard that when I have demoed.

sure there are probably a lot of unused scrollsaws out there, but locating them is a bit hard.

Hegner scroll saws are simply excellent. Mike Moorlach told me these are the best and he was right. When I bought it I thought I was being a bit capricious. Now I know every cent I paid for was well spent and I will have the best scroll saw available the rest of my life, with some spare parts some time I guess.

I would suggest that Mike has never used an Excalibur scrollsaw, they are truly magnificent, and expensive.
I do know who Mike is and have dealt with him for years, I value his opinions but not neccesarily this one.

Yes there are other great scroll saws.
Hagner and Excalibur are great saws. Another great saw is the Hawk made in MO USA. I do not know if the Co. makes a model for export. I have had two scroll saws for years. One an old Atlas which is good for sign letters and larger items. My 3 year old Delta 20" has been great for making and repairng antique work. Several years ago I was at an antiqure auction and picked up a almost new Hagner for $350 US D which is fantastic. It does not get better. I also just picked up two like new Hawk scroll saws by RBI industries. They have a great web site. I paid $120 for the 20" which sells for $1000 and I paid $225 for the 26" whis sells for $1200 . I picked up an Hitach resaw and all the extra gudes and blades for $610. It sells for around $3000 USD. Wish I could pass on some of the great deals with you. My wife is an Aussie and I just got back form Coffs Harbour. Happy wood working.
