I'm looking for a waterproof sealer that I can dip wooden fishing lures in to seal the lure. After I finish shaping and sanding the lure I seal it, then I paint it, and then I top coat it.

I'm looking for a quicker method. I want to be able to dip the lure to speed up the sealing step. The sealer needs to be waterproof not resistant. It also needs to have a hard smooth finish to paint over.

Figured someone here could suggest something.

What's available in Australia may not be available in the US so you might not get the info you really need but here goes anyway.

I would think the waterproofing would be done by the final coat rather than the initial dip. However, when it comes to quick and easy, fresh shellac is excellent. Dries fast, is pretty waterproof for a base coat and will allow you to paint on it.

Our Hard Shellac (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/hardshell.htm) is available in the US from Luthiers Mercantile (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/distribs.htm) in CA if that's any help and it should be fine as a waterproof final finish. Also fast easy to yse and won't discolour the painted work.

This is but one option I'm sure others may have some more.

Hope this is of some help.
