Lincoln Town Car

Hi everyone
We haven't posted for a while. In fact, I've been very lazy about even going onto the forum, because I've had so many other tasks on my plate, learning to use artists' acrylics and the pyrography pen.

David has been busy with a ton of jobs I've given him in the house, building furniture, painting, so there was precious little time to play in his shed.

This car has been finished for a while. It is a Joys and Toys plan, the same size as the Cadillac I posted a while ago ( 450mm long x 140mm wide ) It is an early 1930s Lincoln Town Car.

It is made from merbau and oregon. The mudguards developed a rather peculiar black stripe which was in the wood and showed up when David sanded the finish, so they had to become black.

The 1930 Lincoln surely was a great vehicle in its time. Quite a smart looking car. Your hubby must be very pleased with his results.

I'm going to have my last comment on this subject.

I think the toymakers forum has been hijacked by a few people for their own purposes. The woodwork forum is to engender love of all things timber, and to share ideas and techniques, as well as to encourage each other with positive comments and constructive criticism.

When I first saw the Toy Forum, it was full of charming and varied toys for children. I think it t has scared away or discouraged a lot of the newcomers who used to post their pull along toys, their planes for teddy bears and other things that are essentially for children.

I have been guilty too, of using the forum for models, rather than for toys. I intend to put my money where my mouth is in future and post on the scrollsaw section, because David's models are essentially scrollsaw work. Or, if the moderators do not agree, then I will no doubt be moved to the scale modelling or toy section.

I think some people should honestly examine their own motives for what they post. Is it really to help to disseminate woodworking skills and ideas, or is it something different?

I believe what I have been saying here is neither pedantic nor unreasonable. It is self evident to anyone who gives it some time to think unemotionally about it. If it's been discussed before, then maybe it wasn't really discussed honestly enough.

It's obvious from your comments that you're not a tradie. A tradie can tell how a thing is built by looking at it.

Most of us never seriously stick to plans anyway. They're only there to give us ideas or a guide.

As for the photos, perhaps I need to go on a summer school to learn correct photographic techniques. Perhaps you think I bought the b____ thing on EBay.

Let's face it, you're getting old, and rather churlish in your old age.

Let the forum see your stuff as work in progress. Haven't seen much from YOU in quite a while.

I am sorry if I opened old wounds with my comments on models and the scroll sawing forum. I wasn't to know that there had been War and Peace written on the subject. I don't read everything on the forum.

As to it being in the Toy Makers Forum, I really had no choice. If they had given us a forum just for models, scale and otherwise, the whole subject would not have come up.

Anyhow, precious little on Dave's models are built on the scroll saw these days. He prefers the Band Saw. So it wouldn't be scroll saw work anyway.


As far as WIP goes, since when is it mandatory to provide them? It's only a very few things that are presented as WIP.

I don't have the time to photograph David's work at every step, and he certainly wouldn't bother. I have always done my photos at the recommended 640x480 web resolution. Can't help it if you need stronger glasses!!!!

David is no great fan of cameras or computers. He loves his craft, but doesn't have much time to spend on it.With working full time, maintaining a big home and garden, and building me a myriad of specialist furniture and household items.

I often don't see the job until it's ready to assemble, or it's fully assembled, ready for me to finish with poly.

Would have been nice to hear some constructive comments from you.

Only 2 of us Yonnee.The other 2 are the same person Chucking a hissy fit.As far as the pics go ( 2 are from First commissioned car and the last from this thread) I altered the settings and cropped them.They were not the best in the first place but are a lot better now.That is what I was getting at:o

Actually the comments you refer to are from two different people. Dave didn't log out, so my reply is on his name.

As to the photos, yes they are ordinary. Can only blame the new camera that I'm not really familiar with.

Let's just keep it nice.

My comments were tongue in cheek (hence the smilie at the end) David's however, reflected a little annoyance. He thought you weren't being very fair.

Neither Dave nor I spend much time on the computer. I spent the last eleven years working a computer all day long in my job, and Dave uses one all day long, so we don't really find the computer much of a relaxation tool.

So when are we seeing a new piece from you?
