US forum under attack?

Whilst this is my favorite forum, I sometimes stray to others in the States and elsewhere.

Have you noticed the The Practical Machinist Forum is black banned.

My computer reports the site is blocked being under attack.

I have the option to over ride the message, but I'm not game to take a chance.

Anyone else had this problem?

I would expect your antivirus or antispyware programmes might be causing this message

if you have been to a reliable site before then generally its safe to allow your passage past that message

I believe I run good antivirus and anti spyware and they didnt report anything for Practical Machinist

it has in the past for some other sites but if you trust your programmes you might take a chance...like my kids do very often...and then I have to sort it out...

some trojans are very tricky but ever since I have installed these two I have not had a problem that couldnt be solved by running the programme sometimes needed to be in safe mode, but these programmes do that for you anyway if needed (previously ran McAffee and others etc which didnt stop all stuff that the kids manged to download)

Actually did that message try to direct to anther antivirus or Antispyware site...meaning are you (your computer) infected with a trojan...they do this to get you to buy their products

did some checking while I had it open and yes I do get the message when opening the Southbend forum

There were some infected photos in the South Bend sub-forum which were supposed to have been deleted. There was some suspicion that the infection comes from an often-banned malcontent who pops up under different guises.

I just went there to see if I got the Message. I got straight on to the Forum with No Problems. As eskimo Said it could be Your Antivirus or Antispy Program or You could have a Virus on Your Computer causing it. I tried to look at reklavakey.com Website at Work the other Day and the AVG Anti Virus wouldn't let Me. Yet at Home, My Cloud Panda Anti Virus lets Me onto the Website.
If You are having the same Problem with other Frequented Websites then You might want to Run this Windows Program Windows Live OneCare safety scanner: Free online tool for PC health and safety (http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm) . Once this Program has Run it generally Removes itself from Your Computer. Where as Microsoft Security Essentials (on the same Link) Stays on Your Computer all the Time and will probably require Your Existing Antivirus to be Shut Down or Removed while it Runs on Your Computer.

So what's the consensus? Sounds like I'm not the only one with this warning message.

What's going to happen if I ignore the warning. Is there a web site to look up black listed sites?

I just tried with no problems. I am up to date with security. If there was a problem, maybe your security program doesn,t know the problem is fixed. Also just because a problem is reported, does not mean there is a risk. Different security programs get totally different responses. Not all are right. If a number of different ones report ok, probably ok.

No problems here but then I'm using Firefox under Linux.

The problem now seems to be fixed. Many US residents had the same warning, and it was tracked down to some infected photos as Greg mentioned above.

I got the same thing with a US based heavy equipment site a while ago. Its a browser setting in firefox which blocks 'reported attack sites' in my case. If you got to tools ->options ->security in firefox you can see the setting.

I think google must have a register of reported attack sites as you can click a link to see when the last report of it being a problem was... its seems to recheck quite regularly. It could be a false alarm but it could also be that the forum software has been compromised to deliver malicious software... I normally just wait for it to come good.

Funnily enough I had problem with this site several times in close succession until they update their board software and since then not a problem... makes me think maybe it was a security issue on their part after all.
