Hi All
Well I managed to drag myself away from the bowls long enough to make a few pens .. The cambridge is in Red Mallee Burl as is one of the Australianers the other 2 are in Gidgee and a very interesting bit of wood ,it is Mangrove but the cut log (200dia x300 long has been in the salt mud for who knows how long . the result is a striking grey /green with very marked grain I have a large enough piece to make a potpourri bowl I will post a pic when finished ;; as usual the finish is Rustins wit all the kits from Timberbits
Look forward to your comments
Regards

Beautiful work, they all look great. The rustins finish sure came up well. The mangrove is very different, love it.
I picked up a piece that was washed up as drift wood and am looking forward to turning it when it has had a chance to dry out. cheers seriola

Troy
It was not cut or removed from the tree it was a piece that had been cut when the costal walkways and park was created (this is Medowbank in Sydney) to the best of my memory 12-15 years ago and had been laying on the tidal flat since it has taken ages to dry and I had to cut about 20mm of the ends to get past the worm holes... it turns a bit powderry
like a very dry red gum only grey I can't wait to see hoe the bowl turns out

Hi Bowl Basher.

Great pens you have there. Great fit and finish.

The timbers are absolutely stunning. Love the rich red colors of the red mallee and the mangrove is unusual stuff. Going to have to go down to coastal walk to have a look around for some more.

Thanks for sharing.
