I've been meaning to turn some red mallee burl for a while (I acquired a quantity of it two years ago) but I've found finishing it to be very difficult. It's like some parts of the timber almost absorb part of the finish, and others do not. Any tips? I use poly normally.

Great pen Amos. Queen Lizzy would be proud to have that one in her collection. She also is an avid collector of fine pens !. The up-comming wedding certificate will be signed by a pen made by a pen turner from Darwin. He set Croc skin in clear resin for his special pen. I'd love to see that one !. Hopefully they will have a close up of them signing the wedding certificate. Cheers.
