Got recently from my dear daughter a cut off piece of a branch of a walnut tree.
About 18cm in diam. and 25cm long.
Hey that's nice for making two oval shallow small bowls.
So I did cut it into two halves.
In the first I discovered after turning away the bark a perfect round hole, maybe a bullet hole, from the second world war, as it is a very old walnut tree, and in the 40's there were a heavy fighting in the ''Betuwe'' area.
It did disrupting my plan for a decent small bowl, and the end result after I did turning away the (bullit) hole was a bit strange looking small bowl :~
The second was a lot better :)
The axis sizes of both 205x170mm H 42mm
Here the pictures.
All the best, cheers, Ad

Nice and simple Ad!:):)

Is the timber very light in colour or is it the photo?

Do I coincide with Artme, nice pieces, but the color of the wood is this really?

@Arthur and Michael, yes it's the real color of the wood, cannot help it.

Ad, I think I would have left the bullet hole there. The story is very interesting. Nice bowls too. Looks like I have to get back to the oval turning. I haven't done any lathe work for more than six months. been busy doing other things.
