I have my doubts about the tip on clamping your spur drive in your chuck; would want to ensure that any damage done to the taper was proud of the spindle.

I've used my spur drive in my chuck whenever it saves time removing the chuck, such as turning a spigot to hold a bowl blank. I've never noticed any damage to the drive taper. I guess you could always have a dedicated spur drive for that purpose, or even better get a flat (parallel) section machined into the morse taper.
I like the texturing tool kit, but the brass tube doesn't look strong enough glued onto a 1/2" timber tenon. I might try and find the bits to make my own version.
