Any tips on using sugar soap on painted woodwork?

The paintwork in my house - doors, skirting boards - is discoloured through tobacco smoke. I intend using Mangers Sugar Soap to clean it down, now that we have both stopped smoking.
I have read somewhere that unless you wash every last trace of it off the woodwork, you will have problems painting. But I don't intend painting it for a while - the paint is sound. Its just discolouration.
Any experiences or tips?

Don't wish to skite but I have wahed acres o walls and woodwork with sugar soap.
Some tips:

Wear latex or similar gloves.
Wear protective goggles.
I prefer a warm solution.
A cloth or sponge wil do to apply and rub down.
For walls , cailings and other large flat areas I use a flat mop.
WWas down with plain water. A tedious operation requiring sevral clothes and sponges for immediate sopping up of water o prevent possible staining or damage.
I wouldn' woory too much about he possibility of residual SS. I have a painter friend who doesn' was off very well and his work is fine. I just like a bit of extra caution!
Heavily stained areas can be hit with a scouring pad ans SS.
