I had the fortune to fondle and photograph a Ifanger threading toolholder this afternoon. I wonder how closely the Swiss looked at Pratt and Whitney's offering. The illustrations are from their 1944 catalogue.

Hi BT,
I'd been wondering why the tool holder in your pictures can pivot. How does "its so you can match the hilex angle of the thread you are cutting so you wouldnt need side relief on the cutter" sound?
I hate to think what the tool steel is worth though it would last a long long time.

That's an awesome piece of tooling. A tangential style tool holder a mate of mine showed me, was also made by Ifanger. Begs the question, is anything new, or an adaptation of someone elses idea.

Sounds good. Their words Stu " Direction of the thread is determined by the inclination of the toolholder... in the sleeve."

we have a similar tangent threading tool in a draw at work, its not used but
