Here are some tools I made for use with hand planes. The first is a screwdriver made for use with the plane blade screws. It started out its working life as a BBQ fork and was discarded and found by me in an Op shop.

The thickness and width of the stainless steel part of the fork is the right size for making into a specialised screwdriver. I cut of the fork prongs and filed the edge straight. I then straightened the metal in the vice and made a new handle for it.

The photo shows the completed screwdriver with an another fork and a side on view.

The next item was a plane hammer for adjusting the blade in wooden planes. I made it using some offcuts that were laminated together. I made the mortice in the head by laminating around the tenon of the handle. One side is covered with a strip of brass for hitting the blade if necessary.

The inspiration for the jointer fence came from a woodworking cattledog. They allow you to accurately hand or power plane a square edge. I made two of them, different sizes and used two RE magnets to quickly attach and detach the fence.

Photos show the fences and them attached to a no 4 and no 7 plane.

For these projects I used recycled scrap materials, except for the magnets. Finish is 2 coats of hard shellac followed with traditional wax. As Norm would say they were fun projects and making them saved me $ 183 instead of buying them.

Simple, but practical ideas. The jointing fence will be copied, with thanks.

I did come across another version.

Step 1. Drill two holes in the sole of the plane.
Step 2. Lost in the mists of time as I closed the book.
