G'day all,
I thought I might knock up a set bowls out of Myall to give to a friend - small, medium and large. All was going swimmingly with just the last to be sanded and polished - I'll just take off that epoxy dag near the base - I should try with a skew - great idea....not!!

Skew chisels are mean, nasty little beasts that need to be fed fresh meat on a regular basis - ok.... back you go into the draw for another year - that'll teach you!!

It's a feature, not a bug. I'd go ahead and finish it. Plus it shows off the wall thickness.

I feel your pain. Here's hoping you didn't trap your finger between skew and tool rest! (The only solution to that is the Indian Medicine Dance where you leap and hop around the lathe in circles, chanting "Owowow!" DAMHIKT)

Coulda been worse though... at least the piece is still intact - more or less.

I rekon you should finish it as it is. Having a feature like that is great in my eyes ( but i wear coke bottles on my eyes)

Why wouldn't he use a skew as a negative rake scraper?? Done properly they are wonderful tools for finishing such items as these, especially hard Aussie timbers like myall.

As for your pieces; lookin real good.

SATurn 12th-14th August, Wellington SA. Great event. Worth the drive.

I learnt a while ago, when you think you'll give it just one last touch up.....with the skew.....WALK AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you should finish it and keep it as a sacrifice to the skew gods.

Scorch/burn the edges of the damage and finish the polishing - it'll look like a fire (lightning) damaged piece of wood you've done something wonderful with.
