sjm 6th August 2011, 08:49 AM Following on from my http://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/banksia-goblet-135956/, I decided to turn a pair of Banksia Pod Lamps. The pictures tell the story - it's essentially two Banksia pods, one for the shade, and one for the stem. The stems were bored all the way through, then turned on a pen mandrel. The shades were hollowed from each end using jam chucks, one tapered in, and one tapered out, and held in place with tape.
I soldered some heavy copper wire into a frame and glued it into place inside the shades. The inner ring then sits on a tenon turned on top of the stem. The cable runs through a seed hole near the base of the stem. Small 12V globes were used.

Ozkaban 9th August 2011, 09:16 AM They're really nice. I'ev only turned banksia a couple of times without much success - felt like I was turning concrete with re-bar in it
I might have to revisit with this design though. looks very cool.
Cheers,
Dave

Yep, frequent sharpening is required, but the results make it worthwhile.
