I want to try my hand at flattening some timber that will wind up as box lids but is too wide for my 6 inch jointer so I thought I would put my ragtag collection of stanleys to use.
I am concerned at the sharp corners of the blades digging in and wondered if I should get an extra blade for my 4 or 4 1/2 plne and modify the profile by removing he corners.
Is this appropriate?
If it is, is it just a matter of rounding he corners or should I try and curve the blade somehow?

Clinto, try a google search for cambering a plane blade. You only need a very slight curve on the blade to avoid plane tracks. Just concentrate a bit on each corner as you sharpen.

Have a look at this (http://www.finewoodworking.com/SkillsAndTechniques/SkillsAndTechniquesArticle.aspx?id=29711) video. He explains it better than I can.
