Hi Dudes/dudettes,

Im having my first go at this medium, I live in the forest and have plenty of raw material but have no clue as to what to do to stop splitting and checking (not that im sure what checking means). Ive tried using silver wattle (green) but it split so quick it became useless to carve. I started on old dry mountain ash that i had collected for firewood and found that worked ok, it was already split so i knew what i was getting.
Ive got 10 litres of old mobil wax emulsion and 5 litres of sikens donated by dad (he doesnt know it yet).
Im only really hacking away and learning as I go but have no idea how to preserve my works or what timber up here is best to use or anything like that. any advice or suggestions will be favourably looked apon, (not nesescarily followed but).

thanks u mob :)
