DanP 6th January 2005, 02:48 PM Hi all.
Finally getiing around to posting some of the things I have made.
Pics 1, 2 & 3 are a Jewellery Box I made for MrsP for her Birthday. Made of Ringed Myall from Trend Timbers. Splines are Huon (thanks Al). Veneered inlay is Eucalyptus Burl Veneer and the strip around it is huon. Alound the mirror is the natural edge of the Myall. The myall was as hard as hell and tore out easily. Finish is hard shellac, then EEE then traditional wax.
Pic 4, Mango S & P mills 12". Pic 5, Redgum S & P 12".

Wongo 6th January 2005, 02:56 PM Dan the jewellery box looks beautiful. Well done mate. :)
Dan 6th January 2005, 03:32 PM The natural edge on the inside of the lid is a nice touch. Is it a DanP original design feature?
MajorPanic 6th January 2005, 03:44 PM Hi ya Dan!
The jewllery box is SPECTACULAR http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon14.gif

DanP 6th January 2005, 04:09 PM Thanks guys.
Dan, The natural edge was more a necessity than anything else, I would have run out of timber if I didn't use it somewhere on the box. Plus, it would have been a crime not to. It provides such beautiful contrast. Using it on the inside rather than out was my idea though.
Major, That is high praise coming from you. Thanks for the tips in the other post. If it wasn't for yours and other members posts and help I wouldn't have known where to start.
Dan
Sturdee 6th January 2005, 05:04 PM Excellent work Dan. Congratulations. Now don't wait so long to post more work.
Peter.
vsquizz 6th January 2005, 06:05 PM Well done Dan, I especially like the Mango. Box is excellent.
Cheers
AlexS 6th January 2005, 08:02 PM Excellent stuff there Dan, that must be worth mega brownie points. The timber in the box is excellent, and the way you've used it is tops. I like the inside natural edge around the mirror - wouldn't have thought to do it that way m'self, but it looks great.
ozwinner 6th January 2005, 08:02 PM Nice work Dan.
What is it with all you people finishing stuff off??
Al :D
jow104 6th January 2005, 09:22 PM I wouldn't risk making a jewellery box myself, the misses might want to fill it :(
Looks very good from here though.

Hey jow104,
For a pom you have some excellent reasoning powers! ;) :D http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon14.gif
aussiecolector 6th January 2005, 10:12 PM Looks like there's plenty of space in that box, YET! And you had better make it good stuff to, couldn't go putting cheap jewellery in a box like that.
Harry72 7th January 2005, 12:27 AM Like everyone has said nice work Dan, sure makes that flash wooden floor look rather plain!
gatiep 7th January 2005, 02:52 AM Excellent work Dan......the box AND the S+P grinders. Seems like today is not a day for woodturning with everybody remarking on the box and stum about the grinders. Well mate, one can't win them all all the time. Nice stuff, keep it up!
:)
KenSmith 8th January 2005, 04:39 PM Dan, that jewelry box is absolutely stunning!.
Great job.
