This was a personal appeal of mine. To open a Forum for printing. Many of the tools, materials and puzzles are very little different from (shallow) relief carving. I have been wood carving, both relief and 'in the round' for some years.

I found what looked like effective websites but the most recent updates were 2005/6/7. Maybe printers are too busy?

I intend to learn and do wood cut printing, lots of it. I'll post everything I do, good, bad or indifferent. In northern Canada, the native Inuit have defined stone cut printing for the world. I have been polishing soft stone slabs for several months, doing a little carving and printing is planned for my winter (Nov. - Apr.)

I did my first print "The Ookpik Project"/ 4/2011, it's here, somewhere. I got some help and inks from the local high school art teacher. Otherwise, I know DIDDLY-SQUAT about what I'm doing.

So. We have inks, materials, tools and major equipments for those of affluence.

Sounds interesting.

I did a project back in year 7 where I carved out some Chinese characters and and did printing. It was a fun project, though I haven't done anything since. I do remember making a huge mess with the ink though :-

When I attempted my first printing, I got all organized, everything that I thought that I needed was at hand. Just how to do it was still a bit foggy from the very brief instruction that I got from a high school art teacher.

Had not done so much as a proof before I had ink on me, my clothes and the table.
How much worse off can I be after this? What a mess! Good for a giggle or two then went at it.

Some proofs and 10 prints. What that did was to convince me that I wanted to do more.

An interesting concept. I can't offer advice but I hope others pick up on this forum. The last time I did a lino cut I was at school, which is a while ago now:).

You might like to look at the MC Escher site, if you are not already aware of it, as he produced many woodcuts and lino cuts with his famous "waterfall" being particularly notable.

I'm under the gun to finish a piece for an exhibition next week. Hope the paint is dry.
Had to crank out some display stands for my work as well. Deadline Sept 22. for entry.
Once again, I'm too stupid to say no.
During the show, I'll have enough table space to work on a woodcut pattern plus administer a kids contest to name animals from my carvings and match footprints/tracks to the correct animal.

My piece is a kitchen cupboard door, 16" x 31", submarine painting in blues with ripples and light at the top. There is the tail half of a carved fish swimming away from me into the painting.

Soon as that's all over, I want to get to some printing.
