I was fortunate, with six others, to participate in a turning
session with Ken Wraight last Saturday.

A lidded box of American Walnut and a finial of Osage Orange
was the task from a sheet of specifications. As one would
expect "near enough was not good enough" and this made us
all the more observant.

Each of us learned something new and welcomed any
comments Ken had to offer. It was a most informative day
and one we will remember for a long time.

Nice design Allan! Contrast between the two woods looks good as well.
By the way ... did you get a pass? :D

Bruce:
Still waiting to see what you did with the Osage Orange I gave you.:D
Finish was three coats Shellawax and two coats of Glo.

Ray:
Likewise, still waiting to see what you made with it or
is Sue using it as a doorstop.

Letzzzgo:
Yeah, the only pass I got was when I passed him on the way home.:2tsup:
He is yet to see the finished item as we all made our finials in our
own time at home. Will get an appraisal next Wednesday from him.

Thanks for your comments.

Hello Allan,
As it looks I have to join the club. It is a very good efffort for a one days work. You have done things that I have not been able to do, to turn an item using a spec and the end result looks like the spec. I am impressed.

I cut up the small bit you gave Sue for pens got a few bits out of it plus some for finials, lace bobbins, maybe even a crochet hook or two. The big bit is still awaiting its fate.:;

Allan,
A very nice little box. Nothing like a bit of osage to set things off:2tsup:

Allan,
I got it 3/4 made but these days I dont seem to have the time for archery with all the other things on the plate. The wood is nicely seasoned now so no real excuse. Just need prodding in the right direction. When I have made bows for other people I just get stuck in and work through. I will do a post on it when the time comes.
Regards
John
