Hoping for some general opinions on Sherwood gear - specifically their 3/4hp 200mm bench grinder.

As per my other threads it looks like I will have to get an 8 inch grinder and while I want reasonable quality this will be used for sharpening turning chisels and nothing else so I don't want to waste money on a top end machine.

Timbecon have a Sherwood 550W-3/4hp for $119, the Ryobi is 375W-1/2hp for about $139 from Bunnings.

Anyone using this grinder
Cheers
Paul

I bought the Sherwood 1 hp 200mm when it was on special a while ago, works fine. I fitted one alox wheel for sharpening and left one of the grey wheels on for general grinding.

Mine's an Abbot and Ashby 8" from Bunnings. Work's OK but the switch carked it after about 6 months.

Put on one 80 alox wheel with add-on platform and one 60 for the Sorby fingernail grind jig. Now if I could extend the shaft both ends, I'd add a rag wheel for polishing and a belt sander :-}
