Anybody know anything about baseball bat turning (or know where to find stuff on the web or in print).

Info I'm after:

- best woods (eg. maple)
- dimensions
- finishes
- accessories (such as handle grip tape)

Ray,
I posted about this a while back as it's something I'd like to do - if you find the dimensions can you post here or pm me.
Cheers
Paul

There was an article in Australian Wood Review a few months back about a chap in Cairns (I think) that was making baseball bats commercially. While he uses machines to help with much of the process, I think the article mentioned good types of wood to use etc.

Would they use "willow" like a cricket bat?

baseball bats are traditionally made from Ash. I understand Liquid Amber would be suitable also.

I've known they used ash since high school but just read about the yanks using maple as well.

Ditto on my wanting to make one also.

Length ... 29 ~ 32 inches

Diameter ... 2.5 inches
