Anyone had anything to do with BGS Tooling on Ebay the say they are made in Germany I think.

I am looking for a Metric Die Set and well looking for reasonable quality.

I doubt their stuff is actually made in Germany but rather sourced by that company from China, Taiwan and wherever. I do know that the Nutsert Tool they have here - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BGS-Germany-Cordless-Drill-Rivet-Riveting-Attachment-/120713757048?pt=AU_Fasteners&hash=item1c1b19c178 - is exactly the same as what I bought from someone who had a stand at one of the camping and outdoor shows at the Ekka one year. Mine has Tru-Pro on the box which is apparently a Taiwanese company.

Thanks everyone, Nev they do seem to be more for the car guys then a machinist not that I could call myself a machinist or a car guy lol,

you cant be sure these days who is bloody making stuff but if they are from Thailand they shouldn't be too bad and good enough for my needs I would hope.

I probably just go for A HSS set I think but they do have have tungsten steel with titanium coating not sure if its worth it though, thoughts anyone.
Does anyone have anyone else that sells a good set besides H&F?

I looked at the photos of the big metric set. The tap handle and die stock look identical to those in my crappy $79, 40 pc metric/sae set. To be fair I have no complaints about the taps and dies for occasional use, but the holders are rubbish. You could always ask him where they're manufactured. See if he squirms. :)

Generally you need to wait a month or so for them to ship it. In my experience the service has always been great and I have not been ripped off. (but go in with your eyes open)

I'm actually looking at buying 6 mills and lathes at the moment (1 for me) and the guy I am dealing with, just told me to look on the Hare & forbes website and tell me what I wanted as he makes them. All are 40-50% of the price. Admittedly that is FOB china and you don't get a warranty. However, these are going to indonesia, so I would be in that situation anyway. I will just redirect one of the milling machines and lathes to me in Perth.

Aliexpress is quite good. it is products that are actually available for immediate shipment. You can pay by visa, and it sits in escrow until you confirm receipt of the goods (or 3 days after they are delivered). Freight is a little hefty, but it is sent DHL so you get it in 3 days.

worth a look anyway.

check out the shipping fees ..ie the port charges etc etc here in australia...the companies who do in this in oz have a licence to print money......

you might change your mind on importing it direct..especially a 1 off

OT and FWIW I currently have a Hercus 260 coming to me from Hong Kong. The shipping was around $700 plus local wharf gouges expected to be around $400, plus the freight forwarder's fee. The local BS is expected to be almost as much as the shipping from Hong Kong!!! However buying a machine this way is still typically waaaay cheaper than the rip-offs we endure through the local retailers. But of course then you do miss out on the infamous local service and "warranty". :rolleyes:

In my case I wouldn't ordinarily have bothered for something like a 260, as used ones are available here relatively inexpensively, however this one is brand new so I thought I'd go through the exercise. Once it's all complete I should have all the information and will collate it both for others and myself.

I just bought a full set od ba taps & dies (3 taps per size) from Precision tools in India for $75 inc postage so not to bad I reckon. They also have metric sets, just look on ebay. I guess rather them than the chinese but as to quality? Most of what I have seen is pretty good though thats the Royal Enfield's :D

Yeh, it is a rather large cost, and as another poster said close to the cost of the shipping in fees etc. We tend to ship a lot of containers to and from singapore with various machine parts in them, so it is going in with some other gear.

but in some instances it is still worth the hassle. You can always get the shipper to reduce the invoice value too. (of course there being a risk that if the boat sinks your insurance is only paid out on the declared value)

But we were sending a few of them direct to indonesia, so it is much much cheaper for us buying from the chinese, rather than australia and shipping it up.
