Greetings chaps here are some pics of my latest Toy. It will be delivered next Monday and is an Arno Mill it is Italian beastie. I was getting it ready to move. The scate you can see at the bottom to move the beastie. It has all the bits Vise, Slotting head, Rotary table. Boring head, Large Clarkson Collet chuck. Dividing Head. Vertical Head, The fittings and arbors for Horizontal Milling. Plus it is a 40 international taper.

Wow thats a lot of nice stuff you're going to have to find space for. Gime a yell if it wont all fit ;)

You left out "power everything"(by the look of it)

Are you sure those wheels are going to hold up? All the skates I have seen have two wheels each end so they wont tip and they go over cracks better. But then, I get the feeling you've done this before lol

Stuart

p.s. I see in your shaper thread how you stop them tipping.

Yes chaps the Arno is a great purchase it was done at mates rates I have known the owner for many years. I have actually used the beast and it was like heaven on a stick. The Machine does not have a rapid traverse I suspect that because these machines were sold to Tech schools the rapid was disabled some how to stop the students from crashing the beastie. The methow of holding the scates was a bit out of kilter. I forgot that to tighten up the 1 inch allthread would be difficult with the nuts under the scates. But I will make a tube spanner to solve this problem. I will post picks of the move. I have to stretch one scate to fit behind the Arno by 2 inches. The scates were not intended for the Arno but were to move the Sheridan Defiance that is also coming. There is plenty of room at Newport Railway workshops for all these new additions. They are to replace older clapped out machines. The 3 phase for the old machines is to supply the replacements. Thanks for the comments and it is great to be able to use my maching tallents to some good. Yours 4-6-4

Greetings chaps. The day is fast approaching when the Arno leaves Geelong and comes to Melbourne. I have a tube spanner to tighten up the scates and have numerous bits of wood for packing and I have cut some wedges to secure the beastie. I have enlisted my mate Boris and his No 2 son to do the muscle work So on monday the short wheel tandam Gantry and bodies are off to Geelong I will supply Pics of the move yours 4-6-4

Greetings chaps The Mill did not leave Geelong. Suffice to say the day did not start well when the Mill proved to be too heavy for the castors under the scates. After moving the mill out of the garage on pipes which was less pain full than I thought the gantry proved to be too low so the Mill went back into the shed and I moved a 14 inch stroke shaper to Newport instead so the day was not a total loss. Pics of the shaper which was made by the Gordon Institute in Geelong ar on another thread Yours 4-6-4

hi rod. hows that mill going i have an opportunity to buy one that looks the same. the owner says its in good order. it doesn't have as much tooling as yours but some horizontal cutters and collet chucks.
do you know any quick checks i could do to check the condition?

Yes the Arno I have weighs in at 30 cwt and I thing that because of the dramas I am having with moving it it may be a bit more. Mine has Arno cast into the bed. It is a universal. Make sure that it has the over arm brackets for horizontal milling. According to my literature the Arno 1A did not come with a rapid traverse. Probably to keep the cost down and also they were mainly sold to Techs. The next model had the rapid traverse. The hand book I have aquired comes in Italian with brief English additions. I also have a list of where the 1S,s went to. I know of at least one later model with the rapid traverse. perhaps you could post pics Aaron. Yours 4-6-4
