Know this one, a device used to propel a projectile which can result in a Scrunge, Squop or Gromp. I trust you use your 13 metre lathe to manufacture them?

Sorry , I am going to give them all a clue. It is to do with a game, as opposed to sport (football is a game, sport involves the pursuit of live game, my little bit of trivia) but as yet it is not an Olympic event.

John, you are way out, a squidge is the plural of squid after an excess of your favourite brew.

Hello Ian,

Isn't a "squidger" someone that squidges! The more and the better he squidges, the more he gets paid!

BTW, It's about 6:00 PM EDST, October 9 here.(East Coast of USA) Will I have to wait until tomorrow for the answer?

Don't worry John, they have a different time system down 's way, or maybe its a metric clock!
Could also be he's making some squidgers on his big lathe and is having trouble putting the edge on the squidger gouge.

Whats the weather like in Mooroolbark? It's squidging down up here in Healesville. By the way was that winker or wanker?
It's 5-30pm here now probably forgot to alter his clock or refused to for the same reasons that Jo up in Qld used!.

Black clouds and the sun is shining???? by the time this post is accepted it may have all changed. Second point, are you referring to the piece that the squidger propels or the author of the post who had the balls to put it up?

Well fancy that. I think we used to call the big one the tiddly, and it was used to flick the winkers into the cup. Just like the yanks, take a good old British game and bugger it up! Sorry I take back everything I said about

G'day ,

If you're going to turn those sqidges as someone suggested, I don't think that you'll need that "Big Job".

I think that a "mini" might be in order.

Probably easier to do it on the big one. It has no vibration.

Besides any thing compared to it is a mini. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif

G'day ,

About 33 years ago, I worked on a lathe that was 36 feet between centers and would turn a 6 ft diamter paper mill roll. We used a 50 ton crane to lift those rolls. It took about 7 hours to make a rough cut from one end to the other. And that was rough enough to cut your hand if you touched it.

All lathes look small compared to that one!

Marshall Gorrow

G'day Jacko,

Yes, 's lathe is longer between centers but wouldn't you like to put a section of 6 ft diameter tree on that old engine lathe just for the heck of it. The bad thing is it hard to burn the cast iron chips that I was getting!

If there is anyone who hasn't seen "'s Big One" look here http://www.ubeaut.com.au/robbo3.htm

, I never got to turn a lick of wood on that big lathe that I used! You needed a "one legged stool" to use it, especially on the night shift. (6:00 pm to 6:00 am) Seven hours is a long time to watch an engine lathe make automated cuts. (Of ourse you onely had to advance the cutter once per shift.) Woodturning sure is more fun!

Marshall, I have a friend (I do have some)that has a lathe that can rotate (spin aint the word) 8' diam. and 20' long. It has 3 Start motors and when he runs it I reckon he has to notify the power company so they can generate more power as the lights dim in the town.

Top speed of 23 RPM and 18 speeds to get there but what power (insert grunt here).

G'day ,

That is one BIG wood lathe.

It seems like I remember the engine lathe turning at 52 RPM's. We also turned the bearings surfaces which were only about 2 feet in diameter. I don't remember which diameter was turned at 52 RPM's.

BTW, there was two of those lathes side by side.

Wow! That is big! The platform must be 3 1/2 feet (over 1 meter) above the bed. That probably works out around 6 feet (almost 2 meters) above the floor.

Do they make sqidges on it?
